Out of the blue and for no apparent reason:

"Mum, if I was a squirrel, I would NOT eat nuts. I would just eat apples."

"Hmm yeah I think I would too."

"But Mum I thought you liked nuts."

"Oh yes, I suppose I do."

"And you don't like apples."

"No not really."

I got a contemptuous look then and she ignored me for a while.
