Lyddie: letter sounds progress
She's suddenly made a big leap forwards today: recognising the starting sounds of words. e.g. "Square! That begins with s! We made a S didn't we? And circle begins with S too!" and "Pizza begins with p! We made a P." "Did we make a M? Mummy starts with M." Must keep stitching then! We haven't made a M yet.
She still pronounces g and k as d and t, and suddenly today she realises that this is wrong. Now she's trying to say them properly using the back of her tongue. All this is self-motivated, but I think it's been triggered by a combination of the Letterland thing and also some Dr Seuss DVDs, kindly donated by Lucy. Lucy, she's been singing the alphabet with an English (Yorkshire) - not American accent! Maybe the American accent will come later ;-)

American accent?
How about Y is for Yawl instead of Y is for Yacht. With a nice pic to go with it. :-)
Blimey, that's for real isn't it? I thought you were joking!
American accent? Noooooooooo
Heres hoping she never develops such a thing. Not that American accents are bad, its just that they belong 4,500 miles away and not on an English girl in West Yorkshire.
Glad the Suess cd roms are working (as in technically). Yes, the main problem I have with the alphabet song is the "Z". My girls cannot get their heads round it being Zed. For them it is Zee. I will Perservere! Lucy
We've always sung the alphabet song ending in "x y zed, go to bed!" which lots of giggling and noisy shouting of the "Go to bed!" bit.
So when she heard Dr Seuss calling it zee, she did look a little puzzled, but I reckon as long as she knows they both mean the same thing, it's ok :-)
She does like the disks - we both do. Green Eggs and Ham is my favourite! What a cool story!
We also read the Letterland book last night, which introduces all of the characters and tells a little story about them all. Lyddie got very into that.
I think Santa will be bringing Dr Seuss and more Letterland books this year :-)
