She doesn't have the patience any other way. At first I tried to show her by breaking up the words on paper.... but I could just feel her head about to explode with the boredom of it all. lol I get the exasperated 'Just tell me how to spell it!"..and she usually remembers from then on.

My kid's ok, Minniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04770118579029775245noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37623200.post-49826336757236433282008-05-17T10:57:00.000+01:002008-05-17T10:57:00.000+01:00"But she's a child who likes order and structure, ..."But she's a child who likes order and structure, and she wanted to learn phonetically, so I couldn't exactly have stopped her, even though it seems preposterous to many unschoolers.]"

I find phonics hard but have had to get my head around them for D. A bit of reflection certainly always helps me realise how it is working.

Basic 'OKness' of teens is vital IMO. Kids and I have been watching heartbreaking 'missing' programme all week. It's had me tearfully impressing on the children that whatever/whoever they are or want from life that is ok by us.
